Ridge Venting
Of all the ventilation options available for residential roofing, ridge vents are among the most reliable and effective. They’re installed along the peak of the roof and allow warm, moist air to escape continuously, without any moving parts, electricity, or maintenance.
Rivera Roofing Specialists incorporates ridge venting into new roof installations as a standard component of a properly built roofing system. We also install ridge vents on existing roofs when ventilation is inadequate and causing problems.

How Ridge Venting Works
Hot air rises. In an attic, that warm air needs a way out — and ridge vents provide it at the highest point of the roof, exactly where heat concentrates. When paired with adequate soffit intake vents at the eaves, ridge vents create a continuous airflow from the bottom of the roof cavity to the top. Cool air enters at the soffits, pushes the hot air upward, and it exits at the ridge.
This passive system works around the clock, in every season, with zero operating costs.

Advantages of Ridge Vents Over Older Ventilation Approaches
Older roofs often relied on individual box vents or turbine vents placed at various points across the roof. These systems create uneven airflow and often leave dead zones where heat and moisture accumulate. Ridge venting provides consistent ventilation along the entire length of the attic, eliminating hot spots and moisture pockets.
Ridge vents are also less prone to wind-driven rain intrusion than some other vent types, particularly when properly installed with exterior baffles. And because they run along the ridge line, they blend into the roofline far more cleanly than box vents scattered across the surface.
What Happens Without Adequate Ventilation
Poor attic ventilation shortens the life of your roofing materials, contributes to ice dam formation in winter, drives up summer cooling costs, and can lead to moisture damage in the attic structure and insulation. Many manufacturers require proper ventilation as a condition of their material warranties.
If your home runs hot in summer or you’ve experienced recurring ice dam issues, ventilation may be part of the problem. We assess and address it as part of our inspection process.
Installed Right, the First Time
Ridge vent installation requires careful cutting of the roof deck along the peak and proper integration with the shingles above. Done correctly, it’s virtually invisible and performs for the life of the roof. Done poorly, it’s a potential leak point. We’ve been installing ridge vents for 30 years, and we get the details right.
